We are gonna start with fujifilm instax mini 9 vs mini 8 right here. Ok first instant instant mini 9.It shoots Instax mini film. It’s really fun stuff. In this short article, I’m going to let you know what you get when you buy this camera as well as the upgrades that it has over the previous version the mini 8.
So, the Instax mini 9 isthe latest camera from Fujifilm. The mini 9 is sort of the entry-level version ofthe instant film cameras. One of themost fun things about this one I thinkis the colors.
Fujifilm came out with a ton of really cool new colors for the mini 9. There is cobalt blue, there’s also ice blue which is a lighter one, there’s flamingo pink, lime green and smoky white. They all look really cool if you want to see what they look like. Just hit the link. then tell me which one you would pick because I had a really hard time choosing.

Now let’s look at what you get when you buy this camera. So obviously you get the camera.
- Then you get close-up lens attachment. So, the camera by itself does 60 centimeters that’s how close you can get to your subject. When you put this little guy on you can shoot 35 to 50 centimeters. So, that’s really handy especially if you like to do portraits or close-up photography.
- You also get a wrist strap for the camera and super cool sticker. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a sticker with instax cameras before so this is exciting
- then you get the instruction manual which is very exciting as well.
- Two double-A batteries.
Now this is really important when you buy the camera, you do not get the film. So, don’t get them camera and get all excited and then get the home without any film to actually shoot with.
You need to purchase the Fuji Instax Mini film for this camera. You can find it in the link here the cheapest places to get. It comes in packs of 10 and if you know you’re going to be shooting a lot with this the camera really who isn’t you save money. When you buy in bulk.
So make sure to check out the larger packs of the film if you want to save a few dollars.

So, as you can see design wise they are identical. It is the same design , the same weight, the same dimensions all that stuff is the same, the lens is the same, the flash is the same.
But there are a few differences. So, when I first looked at these cameras, I thought that this new the version the mini 9 had more of a matte texture. But I don’t know if it’s just because the mini 8 that I have is a couple years old now.
But otherwise, it’s really like new colors is what you’re looking at. But there are also a few brand-new features that are super useful that I’ll tell you about.
For starters the Close-up lens attachments that we talked about this is new. You do not get this with the instant polaroid mini 8 camera. So that is really helpful. It’s also really easy to use.
I’ll tell you really quickly. So, you know to turn the camera off and then Pop it. That’s it. So, it’s really really fast to use really small and it’s really nice that that’s included now.
Then you will also notice if you look closely at the front of the cameras. The Instax mini 9 now has a selfie mirror built-in right on camera.
You can see Instax mini 8 does not have that. So that when you’re taking a selfie and you can see yourself in this little mirror and that helps you get your framing right.
It seems a little bit silly. But it’s actually really really useful and whenever I am using this for selfies. Now I’m so glad it has it built in. So that is a really great upgrade.
Just a little note on that you’ll probably want to use close-up attachment when you’re doing selfies.
Because I tested it out and I would have to hold that camera as far away as I possibly could to get the right focusing distance without the mirror and that doesn’t make for a very flattering selfie so use those two together if you’re going to be doing self-portraits and I think you’ll get better results.
So, I really think they added some really nice upgrades to the instant mini 9. One thing that I do want to point out – When we were reading about the mini 9 and the new editions is that A lot of things said that there is a new high key mode or a high key mode is in it.
But Instax mini 8 had a high key mode as well. High key just was meaning that it was going to make itbrighter than it thought it should be in case you wanted a brighter looking image.
But just to set the record straight they do both have a high key mode on them.
All right so that is a very quick look at the Instax Mini 9 vs mini 8. We will have a full guide to using it getting great shots all that kind of stuff. So, keep your eyes peeled for that.
But just wanted to kind of give you an idea of the differences here and I think if you have a mini 8 you probably don’t need to upgrade. You can buy an additional close-up lens attachment that has a selfie mirror included.
If you really wanted those features but otherwise they are basically, the same camera. Some nice new upgrades but not worth buying Instax mini 9, if you already have Instax mini 8.
If you don’t have either, you should totally buy Instax mini 9. Because this is one of the most fun cameras we own. We love it for parties weddings our kids love shooting with it. They’re like two and four and they can use this camera.
So definitely, grab one of these instant Polaroid cameras, if you don’t have one. They are just a blast toshoot with.
